Job Description

Do you have good attention to detail, or an interest in design? The Design Systems team at TransferWise develops reusable components and patterns for our product teams to use. You will help to build and improve our web components and styles, working closely with the mobile engineers and designers to align across platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Start your day with team coffee, followed by a stand up where we align on ongoing projects and who needs help with what
  • Spend some time pairing with another web developer in the team, working on a new component, improving the code base or refactoring some styles
  • Catch up on Slack messages in the design systems channels, helping people decide what components to use where, and providing support to others using the system
  • Attend a design critique to learn more about how designers work, and how you can best engage with them as a developer
  • Review a pull request from another developer in your team
  • Participate in a team discussion with the designers and the mobile engineers, trying to align on cross-platform component behaviour / interface
  • Sit in on a retro, giving your feedback on how we could improve as a team and how we work together
  • Use and test TransferWise, raising inconsistencies you find with the team
  • Write some usage guidelines for a new component to add to our documentation

Future Prospects

After your Software Engineering apprenticeship, you can progress into a junior developer role (this includes web and app development). You'll have the skills to continue growing within a tech team, and have enough knowledge/experience to pick up new languages with ease. Software Engineering Level 4 will also provide a good foundation for transitioning into data science.
