Job Description

Working in different teams across the Fitness to Practice Department, you will carry out timely and high-quality regulatory work, providing good customer service to our stakeholders. You will manage and effectively progress a varied and high-volume caseload through the early stages of the fitness to practise process, ensuring the accurate application of our Threshold Policy and drafting good quality allegations for the Investigating Committee. You will also work within our Hearings Team to ensure that hearings of our practice committees run efficiently and in line with our procedures and legislation.

Your principal duties and key responsibilities will be:

  • Manage a varied caseload and effectively progress these through the early stages of the fitness to practice process, according to timeliness and quality performance metrics
  • Accurately assess the risk presented in fitness to practise cases and ensure that high-risk cases are quickly identified, prioritised and progressed for an Interim Order in line with service standards and key performance indicators
  • Using a range of methods, including telephone contact and escalation, to proactively progress enquiries to obtain the information and evidence necessary to bring an investigation to its conclusion, prioritising cases that are at risk of not achieving key performance indicators to ensure timely progression
  • Analyse information and make sound, evidence-based decisions about whether fitness to practice concerns meet our Triage and Threshold decisions, providing clear and detailed reasons for your decisions
  • Draft good quality allegations for the Investigating Committee panel, identifying relevant fitness to practise concerns and ensuring that a complete and coherent bundle is provided to the Investigation Committee
  • Working autonomously to ensure the smooth running of Practice Committee meetings and hearings
  • Provide administrative support to Panels, which includes assisting with the production and quality checking of written decisions and reasons, identification of relevant HCPC policies, practice notes or other guidance that is relevant and provided to Panel’s to ensure proceedings are conducted appropriately
  • Provide the communication link between the Panel and parties to the proceedings and be the point of contact for all key stakeholders involved in meetings or hearings
  • Provide pastoral care and support to witness or parties who may be particularly vulnerable or require special measures, reasonable adjustments or assistance
  • Co-ordinate and undertake meeting and hearing follow-up actions, including notifying parties or colleagues of the decisions and outcome and ensuring that HCPC systems are updated accurately and within established timescales
  • Ensure that relevant colleagues across the HCPC are informed about the outcome or developments flowing from meetings or hearings, including Tribunal Service Managers, HCPC case management team and Communication team colleagues
  • Proactively seek advice and guidance on case progression and issues that arise from your Team Manager
  • Communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders, keeping parties updated on the progress of their case and supporting vulnerable parties through the fitness to practice process
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date case files and systems
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments in and ensure own compliance with fitness to practise policies, guidance, processes and service standards that govern your work
  • Utilising a wide range of communication tools, including telephone, email and letters, provide a high standard of customer care to all HCPC internal and external stakeholders
  • Work as part of the team, supporting and assisting colleagues, peers and your managers to achieve team priorities, objectives, targets and goals
  • Employees are also required to comply with all HCPC policies, paying special attention to the Information Classification and Handling Policy, Health and Safety and Equality and Diversity Policy

Permanent Case Manager role within the Fitness to Practice Department. Case Manager salary and job role will be adopted once the apprenticeship scheme has successfully concluded.

Qualifications Required

  • A minimum of 3 A-level qualifications at grades A, A, B (136 UCAS points) or equivalent qualifications
  • Alongside, 5 GCSEs A*-C (9-4) including Maths and English or equivalent qualifications

Training Provided

As a Paralegal Apprentice with BPP, you will complete the Paralegal Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship. Additional learning within the apprenticeship will enable you to be awarded a Level 4 Certificate of Higher Education in Legal Services which can afford you exemptions from the first two years of the Level 7 Solicitor Apprenticeship.

Your apprenticeship shall be delivered by a blend of online and face-to-face training from and on-the-job learning.
