Job Description

Aster Horses have a new opportunity for a level 2 Equine Apprentice to join their amazing dressage training and livery yard, owned by Daniel Watson and managed by Craig Messenger.


Breaking in young horses for clients and their own foals and young stock. Aster Horses are also a breeding yard, breeding dressage horses for competition.
Owner Daniel Watson competes internationally for Great Britain, abroad and at home, at GP level.
An apprentice will gain a lot of experience as they are so versatile being a professional yard managed by Craig Messenger.
The chosen apprentice will gain a lot of experience in this versatile environment where they train up to Grand Prix level.
Duties will include;

  • Mucking out
  • Turning out/bringing in
  • Tack cleaning
  • Tacking up
  • Feeding
  • Filling hay nets
  • Clipping/pulling/plaiting/trimming
  • Bathing
  • Rug changing
  • Schooling
  • Riding
  • First aid
  • Exercising horses from the ground (lunging, horse walker, long reining, pessoa training etc.)
  • Holding for vet/farrier/dentist

Future Prospects

Possibility of going on to Senior Equine Groom

Skills Required

Some horse care experience would be beneficial

Hard working, friendly, keen to learn, honest

Qualifications Required

GCSE Level 4/ Grade C in Maths and English or equivalent.Contact Haddon Training to discuss if not yet achieved - Must be able to work towards Level 1 or higher in Functional Skills Maths and English
