Responsibilities
What will the apprentice be doing?
The broad purpose of the role is to provide the Environment Agency with a high level of professional environmental expertise, whilst providing a robust overview of key issues and the relevant policies, regulations and legislation an organisation must consider when delivering a specific project or programme.
You will be working across a range of teams who each have a different environmental focus but who are all committed to improving the environment for both people and wildlife.
During the apprenticeship you may be involved in flood and coastal risk management, helping to improve air or water quality, or a variety of ecological projects.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
On completion you will have obtained a BSc (Hons) Environmental Science (Degree) and Level 6 Environment Practitioner, plus an apprenticeship recognised by organisations such as Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM), Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA).
You'll also be attending Kingston Upon Thames University on a day release basis during academic terms.
For the majority of the time you will be learning on the job and wil receive a minimum of 20% of your contracted hours to focus on your apprenticeship
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
You will also have gained suffient insight to understand the very different types of work we do, and to identify which career route within the Environment Agency would be of most interest to you.
This is a permanent position and your employment with us will continue permanently on the completion of your apprenticeship.
Reality Check
Over the duration of the apprenticeship you must be able to travel to Coventry University on a 'block release' basis. You must also be comfortable working both outdoors and within an office environment. Depending on the Location an alternative university may deliver this Apprenticeship.Skills Required
