What will the apprentice be doing?
Joining the Spur Electron team as a Engineering Technician apprentice, your role will be focused on undertaking and supporting the processes on site. The role is mainly laboratory based however time will be spent in the offices as well. As part of your programme, you will learn how to:
- Ensure that products meet specifications
- Get involved with the testing and inspection of products
- Undertake microsection work of components
- Record outcomes
- Produce industry standard documentation
- The role will include learning how to monitor non-conformances and complete calculations for analysis
- You will also be undertaking service, maintenance and calibration of equipment.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Throughout the duration of the apprenticeship you will be paid and day released to PETA’s Havant engineering skills centre for off-the-job training. Your Level 3 programme will include, a level 3 BTEC technical certificate and workbased qualification delivered by PETA.
You will learn how to work safely, work efficiently, use technical information, how to conduct business improvement activities, use Computer Aided Design software, general machining, fitting techniques, how to maintain mechanical and electrical equipment, how to assemble and test electronic circuits as well as general welding techniques.
You will be completing the Level 3 Engineering Technician standard. Overall duration is 48 months.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
As an Engineering Technician apprentice this programme forms part of Spur Electrons succession planning for the future. You will be trained, supported and monitored throughout the process. Once the apprenticeship has been completed there may be a permanent position available for the right candidate.
