What will the apprentice be doing?
Joining the Prysmian team as an Engineering Technician Apprentice, you will be part of the Telecom Engineering team. Your role will be focused on supporting the introduction of new products to the Prysmian group of companies. The role is mainly office based however time will be spent in the manufacturing areas and laboratories. As part of your programme, you will learn:
- About optical cables, materials, manufacturing processes and product testing
- How to undertake development and testing of optical cables and fibres
- Get involved with engineering trials of products
- Identify processes for improvement and solve problems
- Support the local engineers and the operations team as well as meeting with material suppliers
- How to record results of testing and trials, writing short reports
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Throughout the duration of the apprenticeship, you will be paid and day released to PETA’s Havant engineering skills centre for off-the-job training. You will learn how to work safely, work efficiently, use technical information, how to conduct business improvement activities, use Computer Aided Design software, general machining, fitting techniques, how to maintain mechanical and electrical equipment, how to assemble and test electronic circuits as well as general welding techniques. Your Level 3 programme will include, a level 3 BTEC technical certificate and workbased qualification delivered by PETA.
You will be completing the Engineering Technician Standard.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
As an Engineering Technician Apprentice, this programme forms part of Prysmian's succession planning for the future. You will be trained, supported and monitored throughout the process. Once the apprenticeship has been completed there may be a permanent position available for the right candidate.

Benefits: Auto-enrolled into the company pension scheme after qualification period. After completion of the first year of the apprenticeship the salary will increase to £13,851 - £16,954 per annum (age dependent). 25 days holiday plus bank holidays (3 days to be taken at Christmas).
