Job Description

A Uniper UK apprenticeship is your ticket to becoming an engineer of the future. You will gain first-rate training and mentoring along with hands on experience with vital hands-on experience at our technologically advanced power stations, together with gaining the qualifications to prove it!

Responsibilities

We pride ourselves in the high standard of training our staff receive and our apprentices are no different. You will be completing a 42 month Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician Apprenticeship programme with our selected training provider. In year one and two you will attend the training venue on block release to work towards a BTEC qualification and complete a number of practical, technical training courses. In your third year, you’ll be back on site and spend time with a dedicated Assessor who will support you in working towards an NVQ level 3 and your final assessments. The final 6 months of the apprenticeship will involve preparing for, practicing and completing the end point assessment. 

Whilst on site, each of our apprentices are assigned a supervisor and a buddy to support them in applying their learning to their day to day roles.

Typical duties you will get involved in include:

  • Observing, learning and understanding a wide range of engineering skills and processes while under the instruction of skilled technical staff
  • Assisting the department with maintenance work for the Plant
  • Learning and understanding the importance of Health and safety within the workspace
  • Learning how to maintain workshop equipment and to keep it in good working order
  • Maintaining and to ensuring general good housekeeping of the workplace and workshop areas
  • Performing any other duties appropriate to the role of the post holder

Future Prospects

  • Following the apprenticeship, you will be able to apply for EngTech membership with a professional Engineering Institution

  • You will be a capable individual who has a combination of academic achievements as well as an interest in engineering. So, if you’ve always been fascinated by how all things mechanical and electrical work, and you love taking them apart and putting them back together again, this apprenticeship could be perfect for you. It’s not about sitting in front of a computer screen. It’s about seeing how things work on the ground. 

Qualities Required

  • You’ll have a willingness to learn and be self-motivated to achieve
  • You’ll be enthusiastic and energetic and have strong communication and team-working skills

Qualifications Required

  • We’re looking for candidates who have achieved or are on track to achieve a GCSE grades Mathematics Level 4/C or above, GCSE English level 4/C or above and GCSE Science level 4/C or above

Training Provided

Advanced  Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician Standard.
