Job Description

Madson Black Ltd, an Oxfordshire based company that operates internationally, serving the bespoke chandelier and decorative lighting needs of clients requiring the very best service in this specialised field. They are looking to recruit an engineering apprentice to join their team in Bicester.


With our workload increasing we are now in the fortunate position to be looking to increase our number of employees, especially in our factory unit. In particular, we seek someone who wants to work with soft metals to the very highest standards, joining our team of dedicated staff and learning from highly skilled crafts people.

You will work within our team and complete tasks such as:

  • Manufacture and test bespoke lighting products - manipulating, cutting, forming, welding, soldering and detailing parts.
  • Problem solving and fault finding
  • Quality control – understand how the quality of production is controlled, produce documents relating to the products
  • Health and Safety – operate in a safe manner, becoming familiar with all of the policies and regulations. Ensure all personal protective equipment is used in compliance with Health and Safety guidelines
  • Planning work and supply chains – you will understand how our supply chain works
  • Be able to recognise the expectation of customers and strive to satisfy their needs
  • Carry out any other task that may be reasonably requested by the company

Reality Check

  • This work involves working with heavy machinery and heavy materials. Also involved are items that can be very expensive with rare or precious components, so great care must be taken in the workshop not only for your safety and others, but for the products we produce. Eventually work may lead to some onsite visits where work has to done at location

Skills Required

  • This role would be ideal for someone who already has a basic knowledge of metal-working and is keen to take it to the next level

Qualifications Required

  • A minimum of five GCSEs (or equivalent qualifications) at grade 5/C and above including English, Science and maths

Training Provided

Engineering Fitter Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering. This will be delivered via day release to College
  • Level 2 Functional Skills (English and maths is not yet achieved at the required level)
  • In-house competency skills training
