Job Description

Supporting and leading (as required) all facets of testing, across the Centre of Excellence test facility. Customer tests carried out to a high level in terms of quality. To aid the team in understanding and execution of tests and upkeep of the test and supporting facility.

Responsibilities

What will the apprentice be doing?

Duties will include, but are not limited to:-

·       Part of a diverse testing team

·       Advanced test setup – hardware / software

·       Writing and editing test programs

·       High level data manipulation

·       Writing, editing and debugging test programs

·       Manipulating hardware and software to meet the requested parameters

·       Fault finding in terms of test facility and product

·       Monitoring of tests / in test interventions

·       Data capture and fault reporting to internal customer base

·       Calibration support of the test facility

·       Instrumentation set-up and maintenance

·       Working with the internal customer base to meet the given project expectations

·       Maintain testing given test parameters

·       In test conformance checks (Validation / Endurance)

·       RISK assessment technology deployment

·       Work instruction creation

·       Work in a safe manner observing safety protocols for the given area

·       Work to the given processes (documented)

·       Advanced test facility understanding

·       Maintain test tracking / status process

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Training will match the apprenticeship standard and will complement on the job.

 

As an apprentice you will attend the University of Greenwich one day per week to complete your degree which would provide the foundation stage of the knowledge and behaviour elements in the competence qualification. It will support the fundamental scientific and mathematical principles that equip you with the understanding required to operate effectively and efficiently at high level within this sector.  Upon successful completion of the degree the apprentice will get a BEng, they are then required to complete the apprenticeship (End Point Assessment).

 

Training includes:

 

·       A solid grasp of the core engineering skills. These skills will not only prepare the apprentice for the workplace in demonstrating that they have the required basic skills to do the core role but also the core competencies that will stretch and challenge them over the duration of the course. 

·       The apprentice will develop core behaviours which include the importance of complying with statutory and organisational health, safety and risk management requirements and the implications if these are not adhered to.

·       The learning is focused on ensuring the apprentice acquires the knowledge, skills and behaviours prior to end-point assessment which include robust synoptic assessments.

The qualifications and experience gained on this Apprenticeship will allow you to apply for further roles within this sector.

We would look to take on candidates that excelled during their apprenticeship full-time, this would be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Reality Check

The apprenticeship standard has been designed to meet the professional standards of the Engineering Council for initial registration as an Engineering Technician (Eng Tech) in partnership with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. Further professional development and registration is subject to candidates successfully completing the appropriate learning, developing the appropriate competence, and undergoing professional review.
