Job Description

Prima Electronic Services are a Contract Electronics Manufacturer based in St. Ives, Cambridgeshire. Specialising in PCB assembly and mechanical build, from initial prototype quantities to high volume production. Prima have been operating for over 30 years and are focussed on being agile while maintaining a high-quality standard.


What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Setup & use various test equipment
  • Follow test procedures & complete reports
  • Use various programming techniques to program electronic components
  • Functionally test circuit boards
  • Perform fault finding techniques, identify faulty components & send for rework
  • Maintain test equipment
  • Use various technical documentation e.g., circuit diagrams & assembly drawings
  • Work towards & meet customer deadlines

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Engineering Technician Level 3:

  • EAL Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence) all 10 units.
  • EAL Level 3 Diploma of their choice, mainly Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering or employer training plan as agreed.
  • Pearson BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Technical Knowledge)

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Depending on the outcome of the Apprenticeship, the Apprentice may be able to move on to a full-time role and also progress to further education and training at higher levels.

Reality Check

Apprentice will be working in a factory and electronic lab environment using different types of test equipment. They will be required to use a computer each day.
