Job Description

Would you like to be responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical services? This JTL delivered Apprenticeship will teach you to become a competent Electrician.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be installing, maintaining and repairing electrical systems. Duties will include:

Assist electricians on site, primarily with wiring and installation of containment (galv conduit, tray work and trunking (both galv and plastic)), amongst any other job required.

Apprentices are expected to show an interest in what they are learning and have their own initiative, adopting a ‘if there is time to lean, there is time to clean’ attitude.

  • Working indoors and outdoors and sometimes working at height
  • Develop good working relationships with people
  • Reading building and engineering drawings as well as wiring and circuit diagrams
  • Select (within limits) materials and equipment
  • Writing reports
  • Inspecting and testing electrical installations and diagnosing and rectifying faults on a range of circuits and equipment
  • Keeping tools and work area clean and tidy
  • Making sure that Health and Safety is at the forefront of everything you do
  • Terminating armoured and non-armoured cables
  • Applying resin to cable joints
  • Assist with statutory testing
  • Installing cut outs
  • Dealing with domestic electrics
  • Working within lofts and under floorboards
  • Chasing walls
  • Sweeping and cleaning up after the completion of jobs
  • Light fixing
  • Shadowing Professional electricians
  • Inspecting equipment to make sure it is safe to use
  • Undertaking any other duties and responsibilities as required
  • Dealing with domestic, commercial and industrial electrics where required
  • Wiring of smoke detectors
  • Working at heights (ladders)

Future Prospects

The advertised Apprentice wage will increase yearly or upon completion of progressive stages. After initially qualifying, you could go on to supervisory roles, senior management positions or even running your own business.

Reality Check

The ideal candidate will hold a full driving licence, have a clean DBS checks shall be required for some of our site (e.g. RAF bases) and will also be required to work away from home.

Qualifications Required

All candidates must complete the JTL Entry Assessment.
