As an Electrical Apprentice at Gatwick Immigration Removal Centre you will contribute towards the delivery of a safe and secure environment for people being detained due their immigration status. You will assist in gathering evidence; written, witness statements and photographic of electrical faults and improvements under supervision of a qualified colleague.
- Maintain records of tools and spares and report this as required.
- Work on LV systems <415v/240v under supervision and as part of training and ongoing progression.
- Fault finding and rectification of complex security, door entry, alarm, CCTV, BMS and power systems ranging from 0v/24v.
- Working on a number of tasks under supervision of a qualified colleague.
Upon completion you will be a qualified electrician
You will be subject to security screening before the final offer of employment is made
The role is physical and there will be a requirement to be mobile for most of the working period.
You will be subject to online assessments as part of the assessment process
This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and all offers of employment are subject to security clearance checks and approval by the Home Office.
To be successful in this role you’ll need to be a confident communicator to ensure effective interactions with colleagues. The role requires you to be able to balance conflicting priorities to ensure effective service delivery so you’ll need to be comfortable managing multi task at once. In addition to this, you will have a keen eye for detail when approaching problems.

You’ll demonstrate a willingness to learn and develop your skills and knowledge as outlined in the Apprentice Standard whilst having a keen eye for detail within your work. Lastly you’ll need to have a GCSE grade 4 (C in old scale) in Maths, English and Science.
As part of our apprenticeship scheme you’ll be enrolled on Level 3 Electro-technical Qualification – Installation (delivered by Crawley College).
