Job Description

Hadleigh Community Primary School is a large Primary School with 475 fulltime pupils ages 5 to 11 and 53 part time/full time Nursery places for 3 to 4-year olds. It is situated in a semi-rural community, approximately 11 miles west of Ipswich. They have an opportunity for an early years apprentice to join the team.

The new Apprentice will work in our Nursery Unit. We have a wealth of experience in our Early Years team. The Nursery team comprises two qualified teachers; a Level 3 Assistant, a Level 3 Apprentice (in her second year) and this new apprenticeship role. (Our level 3 Assistant completed her Level 2 and 3 Apprenticeships with us). Upon successful completion of this Level 2 apprenticeship, we hope to be able to offer a two year L3 Early Years Educator Apprenticeship in the Nursery Unit.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • To support the team members to engage, communicate and care for the children, this will include Indoor and outdoor play
  • Work independently whilst further developing your knowledge and skills
  • Planning and preparing activities and materials
  • Setting out activities before classes and tidying up afterwards

Future Prospects

This is a great opportunity for the right applicant to join our school in our Early Years. Three years ago, we increased our Nursery intake to develop our Forest School provision. In addition, we offered wrap around care for these younger children. We continue to build on this success and the successful applicant will join us on this venture.

Whilst we cannot guarantee a job at HCPS at the end of it, upon successful completion of this apprenticeship, you may be able to undertake a L3 Early Years Educator Apprenticeship with us. This would then put you in a great position for any future vacancies.

If not with us, other future roles could be:

  • Nursery Nurse
  • Nursery Teaching Assistant
  • Nursery Worker
  • Nursery Supervisor
  • Or you could go onto teacher training

Just to let you know, two of our previous apprentices have gone onto teacher training and one has returned to us as a fully qualified Early Years teacher – this was fantastic for us.

Reality Check

This will be a varied, busy role. You will need to be prepared to work outdoors for some of the week at our Forest School sessions (in all weathers!). This role is for 40 weeks per year (school term time plus extra training days and Professional Development Days). There may be an opportunity to work in the holidays to assist with holiday clubs. You will be allowed a half day release each week to assist with your apprenticeship course work.

Other Benefits:

  • Staff Wellbeing Programme
  • Delicious school lunch for £1 per day
  • Very friendly and supportive staff Travel Car parking is available locally and many bus routes serve Hadleigh

The post holder will be required to complete a DBS check as part of the school’s Safeguarding Policy. In addition, they need to satisfy all pre-employment checks.
