Recruiting NOW for Degree Computing apprentices.Computing is essential to the science that STFC supports. We need keen individuals to support us in the development of new software and systems. We are recruiting Computing apprentices to work at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory near Oxford.


What will the apprentice be doing?

You will undertake activities on rotations that will develop your expertise in Linux servers, storage & virtualisation, containerisation, cloud computing, data management, network design, cyber security, DevOps, software-defined networking, and the internet of things (IoT). In addition to object oriented programming, data modelling, SQL, systems development, agile, systems analysis and design, web and mobile application development, big data and analytics and more.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

During the apprenticeship scheme you will be exposed to a variety of IT, gaining a broad range of skills and experiences to support you as you work towards a BSc (Hons) Digital and Technology Solutions Degree. Approximately 11% of training takes place in the QA learning centre classroom. 9% is done in the workplace, through online training, one to one meetings with your QA Technical Skills Coach, or developing your portfolio. The remaining time will be spent on your workplace activity.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

This could lead to a permanent position with great career prospects after the Apprenticeship.

To be considered for this role you must have gained or be on track to gain by September 2020 at least a minimum of two A levels at grade A or above OR three A levels at grade C or above OR a BTEC Level 3 in Computing (or similar subject) or equivalent
