Job Description

A creative individual with a good level of literacy to carry out a range of creative and technical roles within their business, from image creation and editing, social media content creation and back-end analysis, through to assisting with the creation of a website and the management and upkeep of the site.


Duties will inlcude: 

  • Assist with requests for technical equipment and resources to support learning, developing a systematic safe approach to using equipment to support key stages of the curriculum
  • Preparation, assembly, setting up and clearing away of computer equipment with appropriate software peripherals for practical classes, examinations, assessments etc.
  • To assist with the monitoring of the network and computer systems to ensure they are regularly tested to run efficiently and backed up
  • Maintain equipment, including computer hardware installations, maintenance of peripherals, scanners, printers, IT furniture, undertake repairs and modifications
  • Assist the Network Manager to ensure that the system is kept up-to-date regularly with antiviral and security software and other system updates and packages required
  • Assist with Document Management – including maintenance of up-to-date text books, equipment instructions and guides
  • Help support the development of new technology
  • Help to identify the cause of faults and undertake basic repairs
  • Assist the Network Manager to ensure there is adequate data security, including regular password updates. Ensure access rights to parts of the network are managed, including student and staff databases
  • Respond to actual or potential hazardous situations to prevent harm to students, staff or others
  • With the Network Manager ensure adequate risk assessments are carried out for computer network activities and lessons requiring the use of technical equipment 
  • Conduct safety checks on equipment and services
  • Ensure that appropriate signage and notices are maintained in the designated practical working area
  • Secure network areas and equipment when not in use
  • Demonstrate the correct and safe use of equipment to students and staff
  • Provide technical advice and assistance to students and staff
  • To support the delivery of training sessions for other staff on databases, spreadsheets, graphics and other hardware/software issues
  • Be involved in extra curricular activities (e.g. IT clubs, activities, open days, presentation evenings)
  • Monitor any problems and difficulties, reporting these to the Network Manager
  • Report student and school issues in line with the School’s policies for health and safety, child protection and behaviour management
  • Attend meetings and training sessions as required
  • Performing any other duties commensurate with the level of responsibility of the post

This role will be part of a dynamic and exciting team of 3 technicians and a Trust Network Manager.

Qualifications Required

  • We require someone who is educated to GCSE standard English and maths grade 4/C (or above), or equivalent or Functional Skills Level 2 in English and maths

Being part of the Primary Goal community will give apprentices access to a range of other apprentices (with varying levels of experience) who can share good practice and offer suggestions and support. Our apprentices love being able to help each other!

Apprentices will have access to specialist industry partners for technology on hand to provide advice and support, access to resources and themed training days.

The Primary Goal portal is an online dashboard that will provide apprentices with a knowledge base to access information and technical guidance, as well as links to the helpdesk to speak to technicians who can give real-time advice and support.
