Responsibilities
What will the apprentice be doing?
- Set-up & prepare surgery before the start of each session.
- Clean and sterilise all instruments & working surfaces to required standards.
- Ensure safe disposal of sharps & clinical waste.
- Process dental radiographs & assist in the correct procedure for dental radiography via processing unit.
- Perform chaperoning duties for dentists.
- Update patient medical forms.
- Ensure all necessary laboratory work is returned & ready for each session.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Apprentices will be required to attend college at least x1 day per week either at Uxbridge, Harrow or Hayes Campus completing necessary mandatory training and units associated with the apprenticeship.
The apprentice will be required to complete:
- Work towards gaining a full Level 3 Dental Nursing qualification.
- Employment Rights and Responsibilities.
- Skills, Knowledge, and Behaviours.
- Standard and End Point Assessment.
- Functional Skills in English, Maths, and ICT (if required).
Other training will be provided by the employer as required to enable the fulfilment of the job role.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
Once qualified the individual will be able to register with the General Dental Council and join the Association of British Dental Nurses. This allows individuals to work legally in this sector and opens up other pathways for future progression e.g. Experienced Dental Nurse, Hygienist, Therapist, Practice Manager.Reality Check
College attendance every Friday. We use a mixture of blended learning 1 week in college followed by 2 weeks of online sessions. (College hours will be paid).Skills Required
