To assist in fundamental research, development and implementation of ultrasonic sensors and instrumentation.


Duties and responsibilities to include:

  • Perform practical work in a safe and controlled manner to ensure both quality of work and the safety of yourself and others
  • Oversee preparation and finalisation of experimental investigations
  • Support with experimental investigations
  • Support the analysis and report on results of experimentation
  • Support the production of prototype designs based upon experimentation results
  • Manufacture prototypes for visualisation as well as test purposes
  • Manage suppliers to ensure ordered parts are delivered on schedule, to cost and to specification
  • Assist with other tasks as requested, including being responsible for the laboratory or office on a rota basis

  • Prototypes are to be of high quality
  • Manage the process of outsourcing more complex machining tasks.
  • Carry out machining on milling machine and lathe
  • Follow works procedures carefully
  • Results are both accurate and repeatable.
  • Read and understand risk assessments
  • Prepare lab/workshop with correct materials and equipment
  • Source materials and equipment from suppliers
  • Carry out testing
  • Recording of data/findings
  • Plot results in suitable formats (Excel)

Qualities Required

  • Manually machine components to engineering specifications
  • Working to quality standards required for the components
  • Ensure you adhere to Health & Safety policies and procedures
  • Working to given time scales
  • Work alongside skilled Machinists to provide you with the knowledge needed to become fully trained
  • You will also be expected to respond quickly to changing demands throughout your working day

Qualifications Required

A Level at grade B and Above including a Mathematical Based Subject and a Science, Technology, Engineering or additional Mathematics related subject or

120 credits Engineering BTEC at Level 3. Plus 5 GCSEs at Grade A* to C or Grades 4-9 or equivalent
