The Dynamics composites Centre is the area that manufactures blades for many of the Leonardo Helicopters aircraft, including military, civil and VVIP aircraft. The blades are manufactured from the raw material.
- Working with world-leading specialists, you will increase your technical skills and capability, and develop your academic and practical understanding of the diverse world that is manufacturing & supply chain
- Throughout this period, the apprentices will work with skilled maintenance engineers and will gain experience in both electrical and mechanical systems.
- The Leonardo Helicopters plant and equipment cover a vast array of machines from large machining centres through to composite press tools and autoclaves
The structure of the Apprenticeship programme will be as follows:
Full time at Yeovil College to complete a Level 2 Vocational qualification in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (practical/workshop based) and a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Machining (knowledge/classroom based).
Work placements at Leonardo Helicopters (4 days per week) and starting the Level 3 Vocational (work related) qualification in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering. Attend Yeovil College (1 day per week) to start the Level 3 Diploma in Machining qualification (this includes mathematics to AS/A2 level).
Work placements at Leonardo Helicopters (4 days per week) and continuing the Level 3 Vocational (work related) qualification in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering. Attend Yeovil College (1 day per week) to continue the Level 3 Diploma in Machining qualification (this includes mathematics to AS/A2 level).
Work placements at Leonardo Helicopters (5 days per week) and completing the Level 3 Vocational (work related) qualification in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering.
During years 2, 3 & 4, apprentices will follow a structured placement programme designed to ensure broad practical experience is gained in the required competences. Apprentices will work with skilled fitters in each work placement to learn the required skills.
** Please note depending on the progress of the individual the apprenticeship could take 5 years to complete.

You must have (as a minimum) the following academic qualifications:
4 x GCSE’s at grade A* - C / 4 - 9 (or equivalent) including:
Maths, English Language and/or Literature, Science* (minimum acceptable requirement for Combined Science needs to be GCSE grade 4:4)
Grade requirements for English and Science have to be met, however Science at a Level 3 (or grade D) can potentially be considered if the applicant has completed another qualification which could be used in conjunction i.e. BTEC Level 3 Engineering.
