Job Description

The apprenticeship is delivered over a 36 month period. Consisting of both off the Job Training, on the Job training and followed by an End Point Assessment.

Responsibilities

The Doosan Babcock Limited Advanced Apprenticeship Scheme programme over a 36 month period and leading to a Level 3 Diploma in Rigging. 

The Engineering Construction Rigger role encompasses:

  • The installation and dismantling of the capital plant steel infrastructure which makes up engineering and construction projects, these operations are by nature complex and non-repetitive
  • The construction is achieved through the use of static and mobile moving and lifting equipment and accessories and as the assembly of the structure progresses, can involve the use of additional specialist access equipment
  • Erectors will use powered as well as non-powered hand tools to assemble the structure, this can also require the fixing of metal decking, safety netting and edge rails to facilitate safe working

Qualifications Required

We require at least one qualification in both English & mathematics from the following minimum options:

English:

  • 4 or C grade GCSE or international GCSE qualification in either English, English Literature, English Language, or English Language and Literature
  • Level 2 Functional Skills qualification in English
  • Level 2 Key Skills qualification in either Literacy or Communication
  • Scottish National 5 in English grade C/or above or equivalent qualification 

Mathematics:

4 or C grade GCSE or international GCSE qualification in either mathematics, Linear maths, Modular maths, Application of maths, Methods in mathematics, Additional mathematics, mathematics - Numeracy, or Use of mathematics

  • Level 2 Functional Skills qualification in mathematics
  • Level 2 Key Skills qualification in Application of Number
  • Scottish National 5 in mathematics grade C or above 

Equivalent qualifications to those listed may also be accepted.

Training Provided

Advanced Engineering Construction Erector/Rigger standard.

The apprenticeship is delivered by qualified industry experts, typically over a 36 month period. This involves:

  • Off the Job Training- delivering practical and theory learning over 8 months within the Skill Centre in Tipton, West Midlands, designed to replicate a site environment
  • On the Job training- completed on a UK site providing the apprentice with the opportunity to apply their skills, knowledge within a working environment, which will be visited by a member of our Assessment team
  • End Point Assessment - Apprentices will be required to attend at the end of their 36 month programme in order to complete the Level 3 qualification, which consists of a practical test, written exam and an interview
