Opportunity to undertake Commis Chef Apprenticeship under the mentorship of Executive Chef Adam Ashe to learn basic kitchen skills, about food hygiene, health & safety, storage and cleaning. You will learn preparation and cooking of meat, fish, poultry, vegetables, breakfast, banqueting and desserts.

Responsibilities

Duties will include:

  • Learn the preparation and cooking of all fresh ingredients on site
  • This will include meat, fish, poultry, vegetables, breakfast, banqueting and desserts
  • You will learn basic kitchen skills and in addition learn about food hygiene, health & safety, storage and cleaning

You will undertake the Commis Chef Apprenticeship Standards which is delivered on a day release basis at Westminster Kingsway College. You will be required to complete 20% off the job training as part of the apprenticeship.

Reality Check

Please research the employer and consider your commute in terms of time and cost. You will be working in a hot and busy kitchen and will be on your feet all day. Also, you will work a rota which may require you to work weekends and evenings. This position requires a 15 month commitment for the apprenticeship. 12 months of training and up to 3 months for End Point Assessment

Training Provided

  • On the job training 4 days a week and also 1 day a week at WKC
  • Commis Chef Apprenticeship standard
  • Functional Skills English and maths at Level 1, progressing to Level 2
