Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic, passionate and hardworking chef, with a passion for good quality and local food. Experience is not essential, but we ask that you are willing learn, train and progress as a chef.


We are looking for a Commis Chef Apprentice to train in all areas of a busy kitchen. Everything on our menu is freshly prepared on site and cooked from scratch.

A commis you will prepare food and carry out basic cooking tasks under the supervision of a more senior chef. The primary objective of your role is to learn and understand how to carry out the basic functions in every section of the kitchen.

In addition, duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Organising deliveries
  • Assist chef with all prep and service
  • Maintain cleanliness of work area
  • Ensuring hygiene is up to date and regular

As an Apprentice, you will also attend Exeter College once a week. During your lessons, you will learn the key preparation and cooking methods associated with each food group. You will also be introduced to business elements of running a successful Hospitality business, for example, you will learn about costings, menu design and ordering.

Future Prospects

Upon successful completion of the Level 2 Commis Chef Apprenticeship, you may be offered a permanent position. You might also be given the opportunity to progress onto the Advanced, Level 3 Apprenticeship.

Qualifications Required

Ideally, you should hold grade 4/C in maths and English GCSE or equivalent.

Your application may still be considered if you do not meet the entry criteria, however you will have to complete Functional Skills alongside your apprenticeship.

Upon successful completion of the Apprenticeship, you will gain:

  • IFA Level 2 Commis Chef
  • End Point Assessment
  • Functional Skill (if required)
