Job Description

We are looking to employ and train a Commis Chef Apprentice who will support all areas of the kitchen and business. You will be expected to prep and cook dishes to order and will also support the bakery in making our pies, breads and much more.

Responsibilities

As a commis chef apprentice at The Clifton Inn, you will be trained by Head Chef and Owner, Peter in all areas of the kitchen and business.

The Clifton Inn is a family-friendly bakery pub that specialises in Classic British dishes. Everything on site is handmade and cooked from scratch. Furthermore, Peter freshly bakes all their breads, pies and croissants and you will be taught how to replicate this to support the bakery element of the business.

The Sunday Carvery is very popular with locals and you will help in preparing for the smooth running of the day.

Duties may include:

  • Prep work
  • Kitchen hygiene
  • Assisting the chefs in all duties

As this is an apprentice position, Peter and Exeter College we will train, motivate, inspire & teach you in all areas of becoming a chef. Topics will include:

  • Culinary
  • Food safety
  • People
  • Business

This role will allow you to become a fully qualified chef and know how the kitchen functions in line with the business as a whole. You will be involved in supplier visits, cost control, menu planning and environmental impact.

Future Prospects

Upon successful completion of the Level 2 Commis Chef Apprenticeship, a permanent role may be offered. There may also be an opportunity to progress onto the Level 3 Chef de Partie Apprenticeship.

Qualifications Required

Learners ideally need to have maths and English GCSE at grade C/4 or equivalent.

However, if you do not meet the entry criteria, you may still be considered for this role.

Training Provided

Apprentices will be working towards achievement of the following:

  • Certification of Commis Chef Apprenticeship standard
  •  Level 1 Functional Skills in English and Maths (where applicable)
