Job Description

You will be part of the Corporate Services Team, which brings together all the corporate functions and casework admin to AGO colleagues and Law Officers in casework functions. The work is fast paced and provides an opportunity to work in a high-profile and politically sensitive environment.



Corporate Projects:

  • Assist and provide support to Units, as necessary, on all matters across Corporate Services. Deal with a wide range of enquiries and routine correspondence received via the telephone/e-mail professionally, effectively and within agreed timescales
  • Effective use of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint and outlook alongside other IT Programmes to manage the progression of queries
  • Show sound judgement in dealing with all matters across the Corporate Services team from AGO colleague and external suppliers
  • Prioritise work and manage time effectively so that team targets are met. Balance conflicting priorities where necessary, ensuring all tasks are completed to a high standard within the specified deadlines
  • To undertake filing and retrieval of papers, ensuring that existing filing systems are maintained to support the records management project

Case Progression:

  • To be proactive in carrying out designated tasks to a high standard within the Case Progression specified deadlines
  • Effective use of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint and outlook alongside other IT Programmes to manage the progression of cases
  • Tracking of cases using Microsoft Excel and progress to ensure papers are prepared and served within agreed time limits
  • To proactively liaise with Lawyers, Paralegal lawyers, Case Progression Manager and Private Office, and externally with Other government departments, Defence counsel, Treasury Counsel, Court and members of the public
  • To attend and manage weekly case progression meetings with Case Progression officers and the Corporate team manager
  • To action incoming communications ensuring that timely responses and actions required are completed expeditiously
  • Ensure all files are received in advance of the hearing date to ensure the Lawyers have enough time to review and to ensure Court queries/ requests are completed and communicated within the agreed timescales

Future Prospects

  • On completion of the apprenticeship you will have the opportunity to apply for promotion within GLD or other Civil Service Department

Qualifications Required

  • English or maths GCSE or equivalent
  • Please note that if you already hold a business qualification at level 3 or above you will not be eligible for this apprenticeship

Training Provided

  • Level 3 Business Administrator 
  • Functional Skills in maths and English (If required)
  • Training will include workshops, one to one coaching, access to e-learning and support from experienced GLD colleagues
