Job Description

You will be part of our Business Improvement Team, supporting us to deliver change across our organisation. You will provide project management support to our key Projects and our Business Improvement activity.


What will the apprentice be doing?

Over time, as you develop your experience and confidence, you will be encouraged to take on a variety of roles within the change space. You will have the opportunity to gain exposure to project management, project governance, business process mapping and creating effective change communications, all with the support of the Business improvement team.

The apprenticeship is designed to provide you with the relevant training, work experience and qualification within the specified period, and give you a grounding for a future career.

Job Description:

  • Support in the delivery of assigned projects, including setting up meetings, managing project documentation and leading on minute taking and collating associated actions
  • Liaise with colleagues and building strong Stakeholder relationships to ensure the completion of actions and tasks, within tight timeframes
  • Working with Project Managers to report on business improvement activity, including, risks and issues and project spend against the budget
  • With the support of Colleagues, leading on some leading on some projects and business improvement activity as required
  • Ensure you are completely familiar with, and follow, all relevant processes and procedures
  • Self-motivated, and with initial support, take ownership to efficiently undertake all tasks assigned to you
  • Undertake duties or assignments not directly covered by this job description as the needs of the business demand, as part of your personal development plan or to enhance departmental objectives

Apprenticeship Programme: Improvement Technician Standard.

  • Level: 3
  • Duration: 16 months
  • Course Type: Apprenticeship Standard
  • Apprenticeship Delivery: Work based qualification. A tutor will visit you every 4-6 weeks in your workplace

What will be involved?

  • The Improvement Technician Standard apprenticeship is focused on delivering measurable improvements across a business and provides learners with the knowledge, skills and behaviours to lead improvement teams. This programme will last for 16 months of teaching and learning, followed by an End Point Assessment, spread over 2 months. Following Initial Assessment, Enrolment and Induction, programme units are grouped into 3 themes which complement each other. These are Planning, Implementing and Reporting, with the 26 criteria standard criteria logically spread across these themes
  • Apprentices will be assessed on their knowledge and skills throughout the apprenticeship, this is tracked online using an e-portfolio and visits from a tutor every 4-6 weeks. After each theme is complete, a Mock End Point Assessment is carried out to ensure apprentices are ready to complete the End Point Assessment at the end of the programme

End Point Assessment (EPA):

The End Point Assessment will be completed by an Independent End Point Assessment Organisation and consist of three components:

  • Multiple Choice Examination (40-minutes duration)
  • Report, Presentation and Questioning (40-minute presentation, 35-minute questioning)
  • Professional Discussion underpinned by a CPD log (50-minutes duration)

Apprentices must submit their Project Report up to one month after the gateway meeting.

Functional Skills:

  • Apprentices also work towards a Level 2 qualification in English and maths in the first half of the programme if they have no prior exemption (GCSE’s A-C/8-4 or equivalents in English and maths)
