Job Description

Business Administrator Apprentice required to work within a broad range of functions and services, delivering administrative support for the council.


Purpose of this role:

To carry out searches in connection with house conveyance and highways developments within the County and the provision of administrative support to Development Control as directed by the Business Services Officer for Highways Records and Searches.

Key responsibilities include: 

  • To assist in examining and researching maps, data bases, records and information to meet external for highway enquiries received from the District and Borough Councils and personal search companies as part of the conveyancing process for the purchase of land and/or property
  • To assist in providing accurate highway information and retrieval of associated files for planning applications for housing, industrial and commercial development received from highway engineers
  • Input and maintain details on the computerised record system for searches indicating when all searches are complete and where additional questions should be charged for
  • The uploading of all highway enquiries, planning applications and related correspondence, including archiving of old records as required into electronic filing systems
  • File and maintain both manual and computerised records relevant to the section’s work and that of Development Control
  • Maintain records and information relating to individual cultivation licences and highway encroachments
  • To communicate with the public, District Councils. Solicitors, Land Registry, Police, DVLA, Elected Members, schools, Social Services, other local authorities and statutory undertakers
  • To undertake other work as directed by the Business Services Officer, Highways Records and Searches
  • Ability to speak fluent English in order to be able to communicate fully in the role with clients/the public

Qualifications Required

  • Maths and English to level 1 (GCSE E-D/2-3) or equivalent

Training Provided

Advanced Business Administrator level 3 standard.

The apprenticeship scheme is run in conjunction with a training provider to ensure that you are supported by a first-class training programme which will enable you to achieve the following qualifications:

  • You will gain all the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours to enable you to enter Gateway for the End Point Assessment
  • Functional Skills at Level 2, English, maths, if required
