We require an administrator to carry out a wide range of duties. We are a small friendly practice with very low staff turnover. This is an excellent opportunity for someone wishing to gain a wide-ranging training experience in administration and customer service.

Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities to be undertaken may include any or all of the items in the following list. Duties may be varied from time to time under the direction of the GP Partners/Practice Manager, dependent on current and evolving Practice workload and staffing levels:

  • Maintaining and monitoring the Practice appointments system
  • Taking messages and passing on information
  • Computer data entry/data allocation and collation; processing and recording information in accordance with Practice procedures
  • Initiating contact with and responding to requests from patients, other team members and associated healthcare agencies and providers
  • Organising bookings of locum clinicians
  • Overseeing annual leave deductions and bookings

Personal & Professional Development:

  • Participation in an annual individual performance review, including taking responsibility of maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development
  • Taking responsibility for own development, learning and performance, and demonstrating skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work
  • To participate in training sessions to ensure administrative, clinical and computer skills are kept up to date with current technology and practice
  • To participate in regular appraisal meetings
  • To participate in regular team meetings
  • To comply with practice requirements for statutory/mandatory training
  • Where the Practice requires or permits you to undertake training or study, you must attend such course or training and apply yourself both conscientiously and diligently to such course or training, and to the acquisition of any relevant skills and knowledge

Future Prospects

  • Possible full-time permanent employment on successful completion of the apprenticeship training

The post holder should recognise the importance of effective communication within the team and will strive to:

  • Communicate to a high standard with other team members
  • Communicate effectively with patients
  • Recognise people’s needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly
  • To listen and respond appropriately to feedback from patients and colleagues whether this be a complaint, comment or compliment and if it cannot be dealt with immediately, ensure it is reported immediately to a member of the Practice Management Team
  • High standard of IT skills including experience in Microsoft office

Qualifications Required

  • Minimum of Grade C (4) or above or equivalent in maths and English

  • Full training to be provided in house as well as taught provision at Preston's College
