Job Description

You will have the opportunity to split your time between two 9-month placements in our Finance and Planning teams, while working towards a Business Administration apprenticeship. You will also play a part in our Apprenticeship Network, where you get to connect and work on improvement projects with other apprentices.

Responsibilities

Planning

The team has responsibility for Development Management, Planning Policy, Heritage, Landscape and Tree Teams and Compliance. As the Business Administration Apprentice for our team, you will support us through:

  • Experiencing and actioning a range of Planning Services support roles, including office administration, dealing with general enquiries, data entry and a number of other administrative duties to help ensure an effective service for residents.
  • Supporting the Team with a number of key projects.

Finance

The role will be in the systems team of Finance, with particular focus on the Revenues and Benefits System of the Council which is responsible for collecting over £150 million, and paying £30 million in Benefits,

  • You will support the Council in the effective and efficient maintenance and development of the Revenues and Benefits system of the Council (Academy)
  • Maintain and support the Academy System to provide a quality system to the council.

The role is varied, and the successful post holder will be exposed to all aspects of the work of the Finance and Planning teams.  

Specific duties and responsibilities;

Planning

  • Provide administrative support for Planning Services including database management, day-to-day tasks plus specific projects, record management, document preparation and consultation tasks including the Local Plan.
  • Gather factual information from databases and files.
  • Ensure all general correspondence to the Department is distributed appropriately and efficiently to the correct team/members of staff.
  • Scanning and indexing of current and historic applications to maintain the Planning website.
  • Book rooms and provide other support for the organisation of public events and meetings.
  • Carry out basic tasks to support the Business Support Team in the Validation and Registration of Planning Applications, including printing and distribution of correspondence.
  • To exhibit appropriate behaviour for the delivery of a high quality, professional public service.
  • To carry out other tasks as required commensurate with the level of this post.

Finance

  • Assist the Academy Systems Manager in providing a high-quality service which ensures the Council meets is statutory and legal requirements.
  • Gain knowledge of the functionality and systems operation of the Academy system to provide advice and support
  • Maintain and support the Academy System to provide a quality system to the council.
  • Update procedure manuals
  • Assist with the testing of new releases and day to day system issues
  • Undertake system updates and changes.

Qualifications Required

GCSE maths and English (A-C or 4-9)

Training Provided

  • Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship Standard
  • Functional Skills in maths and English if required

The course covers a wide range of topic areas such as communication, finance, business processes, understanding the business environment etc. The topic areas are designed to help build the knowledge, skills and behaviours to achieve the end point assessment which is taken at the end of the apprenticeship through an independent assessment organisation.
