South West Ambulance Service Trust have an exciting opportunity within their Patient Engagement team who are looking for an apprentice to support their activities alongside the wider Quality team.


As an apprentice, you will provide administrative assistance in order to contribute to an effective Patient Engagement department. You will also provide wider administrative support for the Nursing and Quality Department, particularly in regard to sourcing and providing records.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide a first point of contact, by telephone and face to face, for enquiries regarding Engagement matters, referring them to other members of the team where appropriate
  • Collate, file and input letters of appreciation from members of the public to the Engagement database and distribute to the relevant staff members as appropriate
  • Provide support for public and patient engagement meetings and events carried out by the Patient Engagement Team
  • Accurate and timely input of data relevant to Engagement department as appropriate
  • Prepare stationery orders for authorization, receive the order and distribute to team members as required
  • Provide general clerical and administrative support to the Patient Engagement Manager as necessary, including dealing with incoming and outgoing correspondence
  • Provide general support to the wider Nursing and Quality Directorate, including records retrieval and administrative work
  • Carry out photocopying, filing, copy typing, and other administrative duties for the Patient Engagement Manager and the wider team if required
  • Take clear and precise telephone messages and deal with any enquiries as appropriate
  • On behalf of the Patient Engagement Manager and wider team if required, arrange meetings, book meeting rooms, and liaise with other managers to ensure diaries are accurate and all relevant parties are aware of the agreed arrangements
  • To provide a range of administrative support functions to the department managers, including general administrative duties, photocopying and filing
  • Source, retrieve and provide patient records to members of the Nursing and Quality directorate, in accordance with Information Governance requirements
  • Develop and maintain a store of patient engagement resources and materials
  • Undertake training within other departments in the Nursing and Quality directorate to enhance personal skills
  • Undertake miscellaneous duties as required
  • Other duties commensurate with the grade and nature of the position as directed by the Patient Engagement Manager

Skills Required

  • Previous experience of using a computer, in particular Microsoft Office
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of customer care or dealing with the general public
  • Administrative skills including typing

Qualifications Required

  • maths & English GCSE's at grade 4-9 (A-C), or equivalent.

Training Provided

You will develop your skills and knowledge in the workplace with the support of a qualified and experienced team. In addition to this, you will attend Exeter College one day per week to work towards the following:
