Job Description

This is a great opportunity for someone to become an apprentice carpenter in Southend-On-Sea. You will carry out a range of job tasks including measuring, marking out, fitting, cutting, splicing, finishing, positioning and securing.

Responsibilities

This is a great opportunity for someone to become an apprentice carpenter in Southen-On-Sea.

The tasks involved in this role will include:

  • Carry out relevant trade duties on responsive and planned works as requested to client specifications and Higgins standards
  • Work to allocated times and schedules for the project
  • Understand how to calculate quantity, length, area and wastage of resources
  • Understand the characteristics, quality, uses, sustainability, limitations and defects associated with timber and timber-based products and components, such as hardwood, softwood, MDF and other materials
  • Carry out a range of job tasks including measuring, marking out, fitting, cutting, splicing, finishing, positioning and securing
  • Repair or replace frames, mouldings, doors, windows, door and window ironmongery, roofing components, guttering and downpipes and window components
  • Work as part of a team and use materials safely
  • Use, maintain and store hand tools, power tools and associated equipment
  • Understand how to communicate with others and comply with instructions and directions
  • Follow Health and Safety policy and procedures including the wearing of personal protective equipment when necessary
  • Undertake Health and Safety training as required
  • Raise any safety concerns with a manager or supervisor
  • Take part in the apprentice review process and complete any training required and be capable of working independently in the final year of the apprenticeship
  • Undertake such other duties as are commensurate with the apprentice role, as may be reasonable, required at the initial place of work or at other locations in the Company
  • At the end of the Level 2 apprenticeship, TrAC will work with you to ensure that you either progress on to a higher apprenticeship or into full time permanent employment

Skills Required

Previous construction experience would be beneficial but not essential.

Qualifications Required

  • GCSE grade D/3 and above in Maths and English is required or equivalent qualifications

Level 2 Qualification in Carpentry and Joinery with South Essex College.
