Job Description

Second Home Studios create stories using animation and all its related crafts. We work in stop-motion, 2D and CGI, and also produce traditional puppetry and visual effects. We have worked with broadcasters, super brands and everybody in between, crafting messages from simple to sophisticated.

Responsibilities

We have produced BAFTA, RTS and BAA award winning work across different media for a range of audiences. We pride ourselves on exhaustive development at the front end of a project and meticulous execution, with our clients as collaborators rather than just ‘customers’.

We are a small dedicated team of people and work in a very agile and collaborative way. We often have more than one project running in parallel for different client partners. This requires adaptability and resilience when accommodating feedback, adjustments to scope, and our own creative ambition for a project. Our digital designers/2D animators are also capable of modelmaking and doing world class stop-motion animation, with a strong studio discipline.

We presently have a series commission with Cbeebies which is undergoing final contract arrangements and are developing new content ideas all the time. We are keen collaborators with other creatives working in digital, theatre and design. We have twice been nominated in the Innovation 50 list of most innovative companies in the West Midlands.

To assist in the production of Second Home Studios’ projects and activities. The role provides excellent hand-on learning and experience of animation techniques in a busy studio. It involves assisting our director and creative team in the production pipeline, including:

  • Assisting the animation team in the preparation and rigging of assets (digital and model)
  • Artworking of elements and backgrounds (digital)
  • Preparing animation sequences and compositions (digital)
  • Assisting in modelmaking and studio preparation for stop motion animation shoots

The role will mainly be desktop based but will involve degrees of hands on modelmaking and physical artworking including assisting in prop-making, set building. There will also be a requirement for running duties and sourcing of bought props and studio consumables. The role offers an excellent way to build skills, experience and networks that will start your career in animation with an international studio.

Above all we are looking for someone who can work in a team and is not afraid of mixing long spells of monotonous repetitive duties and prep with bursts of creative collaboration. Anyone who understands the differences and challenges of different animation media (2D, CGI, stopmotion) will have a distinct advantage here. The role will need to flex to the different modes of production through discovery, research, refinement, focus, production, post-production, client delivery.

Core Duties:

  • Post-produce and clean up scenes
  • Assist in compositing
  • Assist the Coordinator in the trafficking of assets to remote working team members
