Job Description

Sword & Trowel Limited (S&T) is an AAT licensed practice and is part of a wider group, Gauge Services Limited. S&T is an accounting practice operating in London and East Anglia and we are looking to recruit in order to support our current growth rate. They have an exciting opportunity for an Accounting apprentice to join the team.

Responsibilities

This is an apprenticeship in the Accounting Practice. The successful candidate will be expected to start on administrative work initially and gradually pick up accounting concepts as they progress in their training. On a day-to-day basis the role involves supporting the UK-based team in administrative matters in order to pass records to the offshore production teams and liaising with the same for the purpose of seeing task execution to completion.

There will be a need to interact with clients for the purpose of collecting records and ad hoc administrative tasks. Some incidental client site visits may be necessary from time to time. Gradually, the role, subject to performance should develop to have a direct involvement in transaction treatment and regular bookkeeping.

You could be supporting senior members of the team in the following tasks:

  • Partnership returns
  • Updating Cloud Based ledgers (Xero or QuickBooks)
  • Issue invoices
  • Maintain records for payroll
  • Maintain records for VAT returns
  • Record invoices from suppliers
  • Bank balance reconciliation
  • Credit control and billing

Future Prospects

  • The successful candidate should progress to become a fully qualified accountant within three years and be able to see work for clients from start to completion

Reality Check

The candidate must be flexible to travel occasionally to other office locations from time to time. Most of the work is completed on a computer and manual handwriting as well as paper records are discouraged, unless inevitable. The successful candidate will be expected to start on administrative work initially and gradually pick up accounting concepts as they progress in their training. The successful candidate should be prepared to work longer hours from time to time, if necessary.

Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that's part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week). For more information please visit: https://www.gov.uk/national-minimum-wage-rates
