Responsibilities
Advanced Apprenticeship - Apprenticeship are currently be delivered in the following trades and have an expected duration of 4 years.
Duties will include (but will not be limited to):
- Electrical maintenance
- Mechanical maintenance
- Instrumentation & control
Following a specialised training programme apprentices then progress to a cycle of plant placements to work under the guidance of occupationally competent plant-based employees and begin to demonstrate competences in their designated discipline. You will attend a local college on day release to achieve a technical certificate - National Diploma in Engineering.
Applicants will be expected to be medically fit for the role, eligible to work in the UK and successfully achieve security clearance; Springfield's is an equal opportunities employer.
Future Prospects
Joining the engineering teams, you will be based primarily at our Westinghouse Springfield’s site. Upon successful completion of your training, future opportunities may arise at Westinghouse Springfield’s site or other Westinghouse locations.
Reality Check
- All applicants who are successful are required to pass a security check and medical examination
- Successful Instrument and electrical applicants will need to have perfect colour vision and therefore must undertake a colour blindness test

Applicants should have an engineering aptitude.
Qualifications Required
A minimum of 4 GCSE's at C/4 or above are required in maths, English and Science (or the equivalent qualification).
Training Provided
Maintenance and operations engineering technician Level 3
Initially, all apprentices are taught basic Engineering and Craft skills to NVQ level 2 on a 6 month foundation course before starting on specialised training programmes.
Electrical and instrument and control apprentices progress to a further 6 months on advanced electrical and instrumentation skills whilst Mechanical apprentices progress to a further 6 months on advanced Mechanical skills.
Beyond the initial training apprentices move into on the job placements with the employer developing and practicing skills alongside qualified technicians. When competence is achieved an end point assessment will be arranged.
