Job Description

Day to day horse care including the routine care and condition of the horses, preparing them for competition or riding, health care and treatment, exercising, grooming, trimming and travelling.

Responsibilities

Duties will include all aspects of horse care:

  • Grooming
  • Mucking out
  • Trimming
  • Plaiting
  • Lungeing
  • Health care
  • Travelling
  • Feeding
  • Grooming at competitions / riding

Future Prospects

  • Progression to Advanced Apprenticeship

Reality Check

  • You will be working outside and often at weekends.  Working with horses can be physically demanding so a level of fitness is required
  • The hours of work will be agreed with the employer and the weekly pay will be in accordance with the hours worked. You may be asked to start early e.g. 7.00am or finish late e.g. 7.00pm and some weekend work being involved, but this will be agreed with the employer

Skills Required

  • It would be advantageous to have some previous experience with horses

  • To achieve the qualification and be successful in your job you need to be hard working, reliable, punctual and able to work outdoors in all weathers and often at weekends
