Day to day horse care including the routine care and condition of the horses, preparing them for competition or riding, health care and treatment, exercising, grooming, trimming and travelling.

Responsibilities

Duties will include all aspects of horse care e.g.

  • Grooming
  • Mucking out
  • Trimming
  • Plaiting
  • Lungeing
  • Health care
  • Travelling
  • Feeding
  • Grooming at competitions / riding

Future Prospects

Progression to Advanced Apprenticeship.

Reality Check

You will be working outside and often at weekends. Working with horses can be physically demanding so a level of fitness is required. The hours of work will be agreed with the employer and the weekly pay will be in accordance with the hours worked. You may be asked to start early e.g. 7.00am or finish late e.g. 7.00pm and some weekend work being involved, but this will be agreed with the employer The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for Apprentices will be £4.15 per hour from 1st April 2020. This applies to 16 - 18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent in training. International level yards in show jumping, eventing and dressage. Skills Required

It would be advantageous to have some previous experience with horses.
