Job Description

We are looking to appoint an Apprentice Teaching Assistant who will be able to contribute to the development of a strong, effective school with an emphasis on promoting a culture of educational excellence.

Responsibilities

Day to day duties will include:

  • To provide outstanding support to enable students with additional needs including those with SEN to play a full and active part in the life of the school and to make outstanding progress in their learning
  • Provide one to one, small group and/or in class support for identified students with additional needs including those with a statement of special educational needs (or an Education, Health and Care Plan)
  • Support student access to the curriculum by differentiating learning activities where appropriate
  • Provide feedback to the student on their progress, achievement and attainment
  • Liaise sensitively and effectively with parents and carers and participate in feedback meetings with parents under the teacher’s supervision
  • Assist the SENCO in the development, monitoring and review of the student’s support plans
  • Assist in student supervision and management of student behaviour, in line with school procedures
  • Be aware of and comply with policies relating to safeguarding (including child protection), health and safety, confidentiality and data protection
  • Attend and participate in individual and team meetings as required

Future Prospects

  • There are no provisional plans to extend contracts after Apprenticeship completion however, this will be reviewed at the end of the completed Apprenticeship if the structure and budget allows, subject to Trust approval
  • The wage will be determined by the candidates age, and will be paid at the National Apprenticeship hourly rate ranging between £7.32 for under 21 year old's through to £9.78 for candidates aged 21 or over

Reality Check

  • This role for is term times only (plus 1 inset week), the working hours are Monday – Thursday 8.00am – 3.30pm (with a 1 hour unpaid lunch) and Friday 8.00am – 1.00pm (with a 1 hour unpaid lunch)

Skills Required

  • Working with Children in a secondary school or other setting
  • Supporting children with special educational needs (SEN)
  • Supporting children with English as an additional language (EAL)
  • Contributing to the development, monitoring and review of support plans
  • Effective classroom and behaviour management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to communicate effectively in relevant community languages
  • Good ICT skills for word-processing, use of learning software and accessing on-line resources

Qualifications Required

  • GCSE in English and maths at Grade C/4 or above
