We are looking for an Apprentice Teaching Assistant to have the opportunity to make a difference to the lives of children & young people who have SEN needs. Your role will be classroom based, either in a KS3 or KS4 environment.

You will be expected to have good interpersonal and communication skills so that you are able to be a positive role model for our students, and work effectively with the class teachers and Senior Leadership Team.
We are looking for somebody with good IT, Literacy and Numeracy skills so that they can support our students with these skills in the classroom.

If you have a good sense of humour, patience and an ability to demonstrate flexibility, you are exactly the kind of person we would like to join our team.

This is a varied role and the tasks will include – but are not limited to – the following:

  • General teaching assistant duties
  • Demonstrating the skills required to complete the TA qualification
  • Liaising with the class teacher to prepare resources
  • Liaising with the class teacher to create displays
  • Completing reports
  • Implementing – and following - safeguarding processes.
  • Being responsible for their own CPD and participating in school CPD opportunities
  • Contributing to weekly staff meetings
  • Supporting teachers to complete daily logs and in-session registers.

Please Note - 

Due to the requirements of the role, the successful candidate should be aged 18 or above as the Apprentice will be working with vulnerable adults - some students will be over 18. Due to child protection the Apprentice cannot be under this age.

 An offer of employment will be subject to DBS clearance.

Reality Check

You will be responsible for your travel expenses to and from your place of work.  Therefore, you must have the means to get to your place of work on a daily basis whilst awaiting for your first wages to be paid.

Travel Information

The role is based in the St Peters area of Broadstairs, a short drive from the centres of Margate, Ramsgate and Broadstairs.  Alternatively, it can be accessed via The Loop Bus Service with the following journey times (Broadstairs – 10 minutes, Margate – 25 minutes, Ramsgate – 1 hour).

Qualifications Required

GCSE (or equivalent) Grade A-C/4-9 is required in English or maths, with a minimum of Grade E/2 in the other subject.

Training Provided

Level 3 Teaching Assistant

On the job training with the employer whilst working towards the Apprenticeship Standard. It may be necessary for you to complete Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT – subject to previous achieved grades.

Regular work based assessments/observations carried out by Kent Training & Apprenticeships Tutor Assessor, to determine competency and meet with Awarding Body standards.
