Job Description

Tassomai is an established Edtech tool. Our essential power is to be able to identify where students need more support and direct them to practice and resources that can help. We are focused on improving education for as many students as we can reach and helping to ‘level the playing field’ when it comes to giving students support to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Our small but powerful engineering team is looking for an apprentice to help improve our server-side code base. Being part of a small team means that you will have the opportunity to have a rewarding impact from day one, which will grow in scope, so that you will be contributing to the product, the team and the company as a whole
  • You will become an integral part of our engineering function through a mix of pair programming, team working, and working autonomously. You will be active in the wider team, speaking to and collaborating with our product, content and customer-facing teams, finding out about their needs and helping them to find solutions to their engineering related problems
  • Learning to code, including tests, with high standards and attention to detail
  • Being actively involved in the planning and execution of development tasks
  • Pair programming, to learn and to collaborate
  • Communicating with other teams on progress with bug fixes, features, enhancements.
  • Participate in occasional side-projects, for example we recently built a bot for Slack to automatically compile our weekly staff playlist
  • Assist in transforming some of our services to make them asynchronous

Future Prospects

After your Software Engineering apprenticeship, you can progress into a junior developer role (this includes web and app development). You'll have the skills to continue growing within a tech team, and have enough knowledge/experience to pick up new languages with ease. Software Engineering Level 4 will also provide a good foundation for transitioning into data science.
