As an Apprentice Software Developer you will complete a degree in BSc Digital & Technology Solutions (Level 6 Specialist Apprenticeship) with Manchester Metropolitan University. Throughout the 4-year programme you will spend around 4 days a week working in our award-winning Manchester office with 1 day in university.

As an Apprentice Software Developer you will complete a degree in BSc Digital & Technology Solutions (Level 6 Specialist Apprenticeship) with Manchester Metropolitan University. Throughout the 4-year programme you will spend around 4 days a week working in our award-winning Manchester office with 1 day in university.

Duties will include:

  • Working as part of a squad of Technical, Product and Delivery Leads, UX Designers, UX Researchers, Test and Data Analysts and Developers (Java/JavaScript/Python)
  • Working as part of a fast-paced team in an agile environment, which means collaboration is vital
  • Writing code using; Java. As well as developing web applications and RESTful services and work with JavaScript frameworks such as Angular and ReactJS
  • Developing and maintain code base whilst using the latest trends in application design and pragmatic approaches to ensure consistency and simplicity for our customers
  • Working with software development methodologies such as XP, Scrum, Kanban, and TDD and are passionate about clean code
  • 1 day a week will be spent at Manchester Metropolitan University during term time

  • You currently hold a level 2 in English and mathematics (or GCSE or equivalent at grade C/4 or above)
  • You have a passion and interest in technology, coding, IT, love learning about the latest tech and want to embark on a career as software developer
  • You have good analytical skills, a logical approach and like solving problems; this might mean you like puzzles, strategy games or just taking something apart and putting it back together again
  • You enjoy working with others and are a good communicator
  • The apprenticeship lasts 4 years so it requires dedication, a love of learning and a real aim to succeed

You do not have to be a car enthusiast to work here! Upon joining we will grow your knowledge of the automotive industry so you can truly understand our customers and what we do as a business. During your time as an apprentice you will be part of our early careers network which will allow you to connect and share knowledges with other colleagues. We will support this further with boot camps, hacks, and conferences. As you progress through the apprenticeship, you will be invited to help our early careers network through STEM Ambassador initiatives, mentoring and community hacks.

We offer a starting salary of £18,000 - £21,000 and a great flexible benefits package including 28 days annual leave, not including bank holidays – plus ½ day afternoon office closures on Christmas and New Year’s Eve, pension, and healthcare.

Training Provided

The Apprenticeship combines workplace training with a programme focused on IT in business and includes a blend of technology, commercial and project skills. The core units include:

  • Introduction to Programming
  • Introduction to Business Systems
  • Introduction to Web Development
  • Computing Fundamentals
  • Technology Management
  • Portfolio

Pathway units and negotiated business projects allow you to study a specialist route in Business Technology (IT Consultant), Software Engineering, Data Analytics or Cyber Security.

You can also choose an elective unit, which may include: User Experience Design, Digital & Social Media, CRM, Mobile Applications Development, Enterprise Computing and Advanced Web Development.

As well as the academic content, the Apprenticeship includes sessions on communication, presentation and team working skills, to help you become a confident digital and technology practitioner.
