Job Description

Learn a job whilst you get your qualifications, the company will provide the mandatory training, Healthcare assistant (BTEC) and NVQ2 dispensing assistant. Your tasks include dealing with prescriptions and customers and working both at the counter and in the dispensary. No previous experience required.

Responsibilities

What will the apprentice be doing?

 An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit an Apprentice Pharmacy assistant for in a community pharmacy in Hayling Island. You will be working as part of a pharmacy team under the supervision of the pharmacist to provide a high quality service. You will be trained during the duration of your apprenticeship to be able to carry out the following main duties, which include: • Sale of over the counter medicines • Complete prescription receipt and collection • Ordering, receiving and storing stock • Using the computer to write emails to GP surgeries, using the pharmacy dispensing system (Proscript) to label prescriptions • Dealing with customer requests and queries, both in person and over the phone. • Completing your coursework • Managing stock levels, replenishing and cleaning sales areas • Processing payments using the till, including handling of credit/debit cards and cash • Assisting in the reconciliation of the till at the end of each shift • Use product knowledge when required • To maintain a clean and tidy working environment • To complete compulsory training as required Preferred Candidate skills: • Excellent communication skills • IT proficient • Willing to learn and take on new challenges • Can work under pressure • With a good work ethic • A strong team player whilst also able to work independently • Able to take on feedback and listen to directions The apprenticeship program takes 12-15 months to complete. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship you will receive a Level 2 NVQ, which will allow you to work as a fully qualified dispensing assistant, and act as a gateway to further career development, such as NVQ level 3.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You will complete the following: Retail Level 2 Apprenticeship + 2 GPhC Accredited Courses delivered by the National Pharmacy Association (NPA) Medicines Counter Assistant and Accredited Dispensing Assistant Course. NPA Courses will commence around 8 weeks after you have been enrolled on the Retail Level 2 Apprenticeship. NPA Courses must be completed within the first 12 months of employment at the Pharmacy. Your Retailer Level 2 Apprenticeship will be delivered by Qube Learning who are a National Training Provider. As a student within Qube Learning you will have a dedicated Skills Tutor who will visit you every 4-6 weeks and deliver a bespoke teaching and learning session. Your Apprenticeship Training Programme + NPA Courses should be completed in around 15 months. Functional Skills (Maths and English) may form part of your programme.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship you will receive a Level 2 NVQ, which will allow you to work as a fully qualified dispensing assistant, and act as a gateway to further career development, such as NVQ level 3.
