Job Description

Whittaker Lane Medical Centre are looking to take on a Apprentice Reception/ Administrator to Facilitate effective communication between patients, members the primary health care team, secondary care and other associated healthcare agencies.


Duties will include:

  • Undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the practice
  • Maintaining and monitoring the practice appointments system
  • Processing personal and telephone requests for appointments, visits and telephone consultations and ensuring callers are directed to the appropriate healthcare professional
  • Processing and distributing incoming (and outgoing) mail
  • Taking messages and passing on information
  • Filing and retrieving paperwork
  • Processing repeat prescriptions in accordance with practice guidelines
  • Computer data entry/data allocation and collation; processing and recording information in accordance with practice procedures
  • Ordering, re-ordering and monitoring of stationery and other supplies
  • Dealing with clinical waste

Future Prospects

  • On completion of the Apprenticeship there is likely to be an opportunity for a permanent position

Skills Required

  • Sound knowledge of Windows and MS Office
  • Awareness of data security requirements
  • IT literate (CLAIT or equivalent qualification)
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Problem solving skills

Qualifications Required

  • You will ideally already have achieved a minimum of 5 GCSE’ grade 4/C or equivalent including maths and English

Training Provided

  • Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner Apprenticeship Standard
  • This is a work-based qualification although some college attendance may be required for Functional Skills
