Job Description

You might not think it in these modern times, but radio is a key part of our network. It means we can provide services to customers in rural areas who may not have access to our fibre broadband. It also provides the infrastructure for our EE mobile network as well as radio links between our exchanges, and other vital services.

Responsibilities

As an Apprentice Radio & Rigging Technician, you’ll learn some specialist skills around the design, installation and maintenance of our network.

  • You’ll be taught how to establish and maintain our systems using a range of remote and physical tools to install hardware and software
  • You’ll need to be able to think on your feet, solving problems in a way that results in that’s logical and creative – and also results in as little downtime as possible for our customers
  • You’ll need to be able to use own initiative and have a thorough and organised approach to work
  • You’ll be working with all different kinds of people, from team members to suppliers, so you’ll need to be able to communicate effectively with people from all walks of life

It’s a varied role that could require you to work alone or as part of a team, this could be field-based or at remote sites. Our Radio and Rigging engineers regularly climb high radio towers and masts, so you’ll need to be prepared to travel and be happy working in whatever great British weather comes your way. But don’t worry – you’ll learn a range of new physical skills and we’ll give you plenty of training and support.

Duties may include:

Qualifications Required

  • You’ll need to achieve five GCSEs at grades 4–9 (GCSE C or above) including English Language and maths, or equivalent qualifications. Equivalent qualifications are accepted
  • You’ll also need a full driving licence with no more than six points (this role involves fieldwork)
  • We also require you to be able to pass a colour perception test for a wide range of colours
  • Please note: All of our apprentice schemes are subject to eligibility criteria

Training Provided

As an Apprentice Radio & Rigging Technician you’ll study for:

  • Level 3 apprenticeship standard in Information Communications

Your apprenticeship scheme will last for 18 months. After this you will continue to follow an early career pathway for a set duration which will provide you with the relevant training and skills that will complement your learning, enabling you to become a competent engineer.

You’ll spend a minimum of 20% of your time learning and studying.
