Job Description

We are a small Prep school in the heart of Bury St Edmunds. We are looking for an apprentice chef to work in our school kitchen. You will assist the Head Chef with preparing lunch, snacks and tea. We are a day school and have children aged 0-13 years old.

Responsibilities

What will the apprentice be doing?

You will be a friendly, hard-working and flexible member of our school catering team, supporting the School Chef. You will help to cook, prepare meals, set up and clear lunch and support with additional duties including preparing snacks, baking, adapting food for nursery. Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the School Chef in preparing lunches
  • Preparing salad bar items
  • Baking snacks
  • Cleaning up
  • Working on lunches and side dishes
  • Setting up for events
  • Providing teas, coffees and biscuits for meetings and events
  • Monitoring the diary and supporting the school chef to ensure all commitments are met
  • Keeping a tidy, clean and organised work space
  • Managing stock and planning ahead for the following days

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • The learner will be studying the Production Chef Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard qualification
  • Day release to West Suffolk College
  • Functional skills will be studied if equivalent qualifications are not held
