Responsibilities
We have a fantastic opportunity for a keen, hard worker to gain valuable experience, learning all the skills needed to pursue a career in this versatile sector. Working with a team that works both on commercial and domestic sites, covering all aspects of both external and internal decorating and working on some large scale sites with major contractors, the successful candidate will be :
- Working with clients to ensure they complete the work according to the requirements
- Measuring the work area to calculate the time and materials required to complete the project
- Preparing the surrounding area, including covering fixtures and furniture to prevent messes
- Preparing painting surfaces, including removing old paint, filling holes and cracks and washing walls
- Choosing the tools to complete the job
- Protecting surfaces
- Applying paint, varnishing and other finishes, hanging wallpapers and other decorative products
- Cleaning up painting tools and supplies, replacing fixtures and rearranging furniture after completing the project
- Collaborating with painters on other larger jobs
- Working with other construction professionals such as, carpenters, electricians and plumbers when necessary
- Complying with health & safety standards and understanding risk & method statements
Future Prospects
On succesful completion of the Apprenticeship, there is a chance to move into full time employment.
Reality Check
The successful applicant will need to live in the Brighton postal districts of BN1. BN2, BN3 or BN41.
The successful applicant will need a current CSCS Card.
Before starting the role, the applicant will need to be able to successfully pass a Drugs and Alcohol test.
Skills Required
- A head for heights
- Physical strength
- An eye for detail and pride in work
- Own transport would be desirable, but not essential

The ideal candidate will be:
- Hardworking and physically strong
- Able to follow clear instruction
- Be of tidy appearance
- Be willing to learn
- As some working at heights will be involved, the right candidate will have to have a head for heights
Qualifications Required
Minimum Grade D/3 English and maths GCSE or equivalent.
Training Provided
- Painter and Decorator Level 2 Standard
- Training will be provided onsite by MT Training
