Calico/Constructing the Future are seeking a Painting & Decorating Apprentice. This role will focus primarily on the painting and decorating of social housing.

Responsibilities

Vacancy Description

Duties will include:

  • Developing your trade as a Painter and Decorator, working on both tenanted and empty domestic properties
  • You must be prepared to work on new build or refurbishment properties during your apprenticeship
  • You will be required to keep your work area clean and tidy and work well within the team

Your day-to-day tasks may include:

  • Measuring surface areas and working out how much paint or wall covering is needed
  • Preparing the materials you need
  • Stripping off old wallpaper or layers of paint
  • Filling holes and cracks and making sure surfaces are level
  • Covering surfaces with primer and undercoat
  • Mixing paint to the right shade, often using computerised colour-matching equipment
  • Applying coats of paint, hanging wallpaper and adding special finishes like glazes or marbling
  • Tidying up after finishing, and cleaning your tools

Future Prospects

  • The job also offers a good grounding for progression into supervisory roles, or even to start up your own business

Skills Required

  • It is essential that you have good practical skills
  • You must be a good communicator and it is absolutely essential that you are keen, reliable and punctual
  • It would be preferable that you already achieved a level 2 qualification in painting and decorating, however this is not essential

  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Be able to maintain energy and enthusiasm at times when the work is repetitive

Qualifications Required

  • GCSE's or equivalent in mathematics and English, grades A*-E/9-2 would be beneficial, however all applicants will be considered

Training Provided

Both on-site and in college you will work towards:

  • Level 2 Diploma
  • Level 2 NVQ
  • Functional Skills, if required
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)
