Our Commitment to you is to help you gain a Level 3 Data Techician within a 15 month contract. Hours of work will be 37.5 hours per week with a salary of £180.38p/w.

As part of the apprentice programme you will learn in the workplace and have off the job training.

The role is based in the Clinical Outcomes & Effectiveness team 

You will have an understanding for the importance of the accurate recording of data and to ensure that quality of data is kept at a high standard in order to deliver accurate and effective reports and statistics to aid improvement not only across specialties, but the trust as a whole.

This is a friendly and vibrant Team who will provide full support in line with the completion of  the Apprenticeships Framework within the agreed timescales.

To qualify for the apprenticeship role the minimum criteria is:

  • That you must have GCSE in English and maths
  • Have not completed an apprenticeship at the same level and sector in the past
  • Do not have a Degree in a similar or same subject


1. To support the UHL Clinical Outcomes & Effectiveness team with the collation and entering onto a database Patient Experience questionnaires/audit data. 
2. To assist in extracting (from manual and computerised records) relevant 
information and to enter data onto the appropriate UHL database, ensuring data collected and entered is accurate and valid. Identify problems and raise them to the Head/Deputy Head of Outcomes & Effectiveness and provide support in problem solving. To co-ordinate own time management and workload to provide regular updates about current progress statuses with different work streams. 
3. To liaise with Medical Records and Clinical Coding teams to retrieve paper health care records and accurately track notes between departments to ensure that data is secure.
4. To assist in obtaining documents and relevant case notes in respect of specific reviews using HISS / Track IT and be responsible for monitoring and recording of case note location.
5. To assist in identifying and accessing data from computerised information systems (e.g. HISS / Track IT) and provide feedback as and when required, about issues surrounding the sourcing of patient documents.
6. To assist the Clinical Outcomes & Effectiveness team with reviews as 
applicable and to assist in the collation of data for reports.
7. Take part in Department and Hospital training initiatives necessary to develop required skills and for successful completion of the training programme. To show personal commitment to self-improvement and reflective learning and to demonstrate enthusiasm for future learning opportunities around the role. 
8. Maintain the standards of Clinical Effectiveness Team including confidentiality, regularly dealing with sensitive information in a professional manner

Future Prospects

Working for the NHS for 15 months will enable you to develop valuable skills and experience through the Apprenticeship programme. There is no guarantee of permanent employment in the same job role however, on successful completion of a full apprenticeship apprentices are encouraged and supported to apply for roles within the Trust as we want to retain the talent developed through our Apprenticeship programme.

Skills Required

  • Evidence of good numeracy/literacy skills

Qualifications Required

Maths and English GCSE level grade A*-F or from 2017 GCSE grade 9-1 or Functional Skills at level 1 or above or equivalent.

Training Provided

The apprentice will work towards a Customer Service Intermediate Apprenticeship Framework which includes:

  • Level 3 Data Technician
  • Level 1 Functional Skills in maths

  • Personal Learning & Thinking Skills
  • You will receive a programme of study and be supported by a qualified Training and Assessing team
