You will complete a comprehensive 3 Year programme in Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Engineering Maintenance.


You will complete a comprehensive 3 Year programme in Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Engineering Maintenance.

The job involves maintaining the following:

  • 20 high pressure cold chamber presses. Die casting machines (Frech, Wotan and SMT, up to 450 tonnes locking force)
  • Gas melting furnaces 20 off and auto ladles
  • Semi auto Powder coating plant
  • Lathes, milling machines, CNC milling machines and CNC lathes
  • Drill machines
  • CNC Tapping machines
  • Other general plant and factory equipment e.g., lighting and compressors. Pat testing, Water cooling systems etc.

Additional information:

Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Hydraulic and Pneumatic principles of engineering are all used within most systems.  A general knowledge in all these areas would be advantageous.  A good level of physics would be an ideal grounding. 

The ideal candidate needs to be very hands on with a have a go attitude. Previous experience of repairing or building any project would be good.  This could be in work or as a hobby. A good level of computer literacy would also be needed ideally with some simple logic programming knowledge i.e., movements in 3 axis XYZ.  

The main objectives over time of the roll are:

  • Modernise machine control improvements (plc/ computer)
  • Manage maintenance with a modern preventative approach using planning systems
  • Implement and maintain health and safety requirements on the production lines i.e., machine guarding
  • Improve information data gathering from production lines i.e., process targets failed or passed
  • Improve structures in maintenance that relate better with other departments i.e., logging of errors and repairs
  • Improve overall manufacturing efficiency i.e., replace old equipment with latest technology
  • Gain the relevant qualifications to satisfy the current legislation and to keep with standards as they change i.e., 18th Edition electrical
  • Learn from AMRC Training Centre principles of maintenance 
  • Assist and learn from our senior maintenance engineer the practical side of the day to day issues

Future Prospects

You will complete a comprehensive 3 Year programme in Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Engineering Maintenance.

Qualifications Required

The chosen candidate must have 5 GCSEs at grades C/4 or above (or equivalent) including maths and English.


Training Provided

Level 3 Engineering Technician apprenticeship standard.

The Year one maintenance programme delivered at the AMRC Training Centre over a 26-week full time block programme will include the following compulsory units:

  • Handling over and confirming completion of maintenance activities 
  • Carrying out fault diagnosis on engineered systems
  • Carrying out preventative planned maintenance on engineered systems
  • Maintaining mechanical equipment 
  • Maintaining electrical equipment
