As an apprentice, you will be expected to acquire knowledge of the Company's metallurgy manufacturing processes and procedures, work alongside production and laboratory technicians, and attend college. You will learn all aspects of the powder production


Key responsibilities:

  • Attend Company training to develop relevant knowledge and skills
  • Attend college on a regular basis and attend review meetings to obtain appropriate BTEC and NVQ qualification
  • Work in accordance with Company Quality, Health & Safety and Environmental policies
  • Acquire an understanding of the need for personal safety through knowledge of health and safety policies and procedures and the wearing of PP

Acquire knowledge of the different processes involved in:

  • The testing of powders through instruction from work colleagues and on the job experience the production of powders through instruction from work colleagues and on the job experience
  • How to determine which sieves, feed-rates, and settings for ultrasonic/ball trays etc. for each product In a training capacity assist with: the operation of powder testing equipment and the application of quality control procedures the set up and operation of sieving equipment ensuring that atomised powders are correctly identified and tested before delivery to the sieving area ensuring the correct quality is consistently achieved
  • Ensuring all hoppers and other containers of powder are correctly identified and stored in known locations ensuring all sieving records are kept up to date

Complete other production duties:

  • Including steel melting
  • Charge and tundish preparation once qualified
  • Use fork-lift trucks to move equipment and product around the shop-floor

Future Prospects

Possibility of full time employment subject to successful completion of Apprenticeship.

Other Information

Once qualified: You will be expected to work three shift rotation which includes night shifts. Night shifts are 10pm to 6am. The night shift week commences at 10pm on Sunday evening and ends 6am on Friday morning. Starting salary is £12,000.00 per year for the 6 months. There is a 6-month probationary period in which attendance, performance and conduct is monitored, once passed, salary will increase to £13,130.00. Salary will increase in stages over the duration of the qualification to £25,530.00 once qualified ASL offers 29 days holiday per year (this includes public holidays), an additional 1 day is accrued at 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th year of service. In addition, Christmas shut-down give an additional 3 working days between the statutory Christmas and New Year bank holidays There is an annual profit share bonus paid around December or January for eligible employees The Company contributions 5% into the Company pension. Closing date: Sunday 23/08/2020 Interviews to take place: From Monday 31/08/2020 Appointment commences: 07/09/2020 The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £4.15 from 1st April 2020. This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies

Qualifications Required
