Responsibilities
What will the apprentice be doing?
The role will be at the patient bedside – taking on tasks including washing and dressing patients, helping patients move, making beds and serving meals. We will also teach you technical skills, including how to check a patient’s blood pressure, temperature and heart rate and emergency lifesaving skills. With the chance to learn more advanced skills such as taking a patient’s blood for testing.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Over 18 months, you will have a personal trainer/assessor who will help you develop knowledge, skills and behaviours to provide high-quality, compassionate healthcare and learn how to carry out a range of healthcare or therapeutic tasks. The programme is made up of mandatory units which cover core competencies, and optional units to tailor learning to your needs and aspirations. You will gain a Senior Healthcare Support Worker Level 3 Apprenticeship including a Diploma in Healthcare.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
Upon completion you can apply for, and progress onto, more senior healthcare support worker roles. You will gain the prerequisite qualifications to move onto other training and apprenticeships like the Nurse Associate, Nursing and Associate Healthcare Practitioner.
Reality Check
We are looking for candidates with experience in a public facing/customer care role or environment. The ideal candidates will have previous experience in a Health/Social Care role or within the NHS, although no previous healthcare experience is needed. Your life outside work is important and we will also consider applications for part time hours.Skills Required
