Job Description

The Apprentice Healthcare Assistant position at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable clinical experience and training in an acute hospital. This apprenticeship is suitable for anyone who has an interest in pursuing a career in healthcare and gain a healthcare support worker apprenticeship.


What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Undertake delegated work of the multidisciplinary team to assist in the provision of individualised planned patient care under indirect supervision
  • Use a degree of initiative to ensure patient’s personal needs are met, and the patient’s condition is reported to qualified staff
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and healthy environment, by ensuring orderliness and hygiene and safety of the ward/department
  • Gain competencies in skills specific to the role and department.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • GHNHSFT mandatory training
  • Apprenticeship webinars / workshops once a month delivered in our Education Centres
  • Ward / Department based observations
  • Competencies as determined by the line manager as relevant to the work area / department
  • Regular progress review meetings face to face with the assessor

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

  • Permenant employment may be available upon the completition of the apprenticeship
