Job Description

A willingness to learn and develop knowledge, skills and experience working in Primary Care. You will have the ability to learn to manage patient conversations sensitively and work well with others to deliver services upholding patient confidentiality.

Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Taking blood specimens and preparing for laboratory testing, completing relevant request forms
  • Giving flu injections
  • Taking BP measurements
  • Testing urine samples
  • Taking measurements of height and weight
  • Performing new patient health checks
  • Setting up procedure trolleys for doctors
  • Assisting doctors and nurses as required
  • At all times, to act on the specific request of doctors/nurses
  • Carrying out patient interviews in relation to memory assessments and others as required
  • Accurate and consistent record keeping on clinical computer system to ensure that medical records are kept up to date and information can be easily retrieved
  • Call and recall systems in operation for chronic disease management programmes and retinal screening
  • Collecting and entering clinical information onto computer templates in accordance with GMS contract requirements
  • Notifying any discrepancies in medical/computer record
  • Clerical and chaperone support for baby vac clinic
  • Occasional chaperone for doctors carrying out intimate examinations
  • Maintaining supplies of specimen bottles, containers, request forms
  • Maintaining supplies of vaccines and other items as requested
  • Cleaning and sterilising equipment (minimal as now single use)
  • Co-ordinating collection of clinical waster
  • Ensuring health and safety and infection control procedures are observed
  • Ensuring patient confidentiality is observed
  • Attending such training courses as may from time to time become available and be deemed appropriate by the practice
  • Other duties clinical and non-clinical deemed necessary and appropriate

Qualifications Required

  • Maths and English GCSE or working towards an equivalent
